Williams chooses Marshall

by webmaster

Adam Williams has chosen Marshall as the best school for him to continue his basketball career. In a quote from the HL Adam said:

“I have a great amount of respect for Kentucky basketball,” Williams said in announcing the decision to transfer. “But my love of playing basketball is even higher.”

Like I mentioned before, a school the caliber of Marshall is a much better fit for him considering how guard heavy the recruiting has been lately.

With all the lack-of-effort-or-execution player substitutions that happened through the first half of the year, I think it is strange that Williams didn’t get more PT. What that says to me is that Williams wasn’t proving himself on the practice court. Tubby has a history of subbing in no-so-talented players who bust their asses in practice. Even with all the guards we had rotating in and out, if Williams was really busting his hump in practice, he would have found is way for more than 20 minutes of PT.

That’s my speculation. Helping fuel that is (Adam’s Dad) Tex Williams’ statement in the Huntington Herald-Dispatch:

Tex Williams said it will be nice to see a West Virginia player on the Marshall roster. He filled that role once.

“To me, that means something to the people,” he said. “I want that to mean the same thing to my son. Play harder than anyone on the floor. People who watch remember that style of play for a lifetime. Honors and playing time … the future is now.

“When he hits the floor, I’ll be ecstatic. If he doesn’t give 100 percent effort, I’ll be disappointed.” (Emphasis mine)

I could be making more of this than it is, I’ll admit. Williams seems to be a good talent, and I wish him no ill will with his move at Marshall. But I think its strange that he with his talent and athleticism couldn’t get any minutes at least in the first part of the year.

    I agree with that 100%.

No he was never good enough to play for UK to start with, but Tubby seems to be good at bringing guys who aren’t good enough to UK
